Bringing History to Life
Set in the many significant heritage spots around Ireland's oldest city Winterval offers an enticing mix of history and culture combined with seasonal cheer, we are encouraging all schools to visit the city during the festival for what promises to be a unique Christmas experience.
Waterford's rich historical past encompassing one thousand years of continuous development will be celebrated during the festival offering schools an opportunity; to experience a reenacted Viking settlement, marvel at the full scale Viking longboat on display, wander through Reginald's tower-Ireland's oldest civic building, explore the undercroft of the city and be entertained by actors playing the roles of some of the cities favourite historical characters, bringing the cities museums to life for young and old alike.
Young people are also invited to witness the incredible art of glassblowing as they pay a complimentary visit to the world renowned home of Waterford Crystal.
School Tours
As well as celebrating the city's heritage, there are many other attractions suitable for school visits, amongst them , a traditional carousel, Santa's train, a toy museum, a giant post box for all of those special Santa letters, an ice skating rink, the St Nicholas;Polish Christmas experience and even an an animal farm and a reptile zoo.
A school visit to the festival offers great value for money with many of the attractions and tours being offered free or at a nominal cost especially for schools and just for the duration of the festival.
The program was designed with schools in mind and we hope that you are as excited by it as we are!
