WATERFORD CITY CENTRE CYCLING EVENT

Join us on Friday December 9th at 7:30pm on Gladstone Street as we roll and jingle into the festive season with a gentle city centre novelty cycle!


It's time to get out the tinsel, the fairy lights and the Christmas jumpers - we can't wait to see you and your bike dressed for festive fun!

This is a short 2km family friendly cycle route suitable for ages 6+. We're also encouraging anyone who can to leave the car at home and cycle to and from the event or use public transport.

Entry is FREE of charge.


To register your group please fill out this form: before 1pm on Wednesday, December 7th.  We look forward to seeing you there. 

Please note: All cyclists are required to have a light on their bike for safety. If you do not have a working light on your bike you may be refused entry to the event.

Participant information
-Waterford City County Council in partnership with Winterval and Active Cities have arranged for this fun activity to celebrate the festive season.
-Where possible participants should cycle to and from the event. 
-There are some slight hills but you can push your bike and we’ll wait for you! 
-If you need a hand come early and we'll help you light up your bike with free bike lights. 
-Decorate and bling up your bike with lights and tinsel to be in with a chance of winning a prize
-Prizes for the best dressed adult bike, best dressed kid’s bike, best dressed cargo-bike. 
-Bring your own bike or adults and over 16s can use a TFI City Bike.

-Event will finish at the light show on Arundel Square at Approximately 8:30pm
-A hot chocolate will be provided for all free of charge
-An ariel photograph will be taken at the end

-If you are bringing your own bike, it should be in good mechanical order and brakes working.  Tyres should be suitably pumped to reduce the risk of punctures during the activity.   
-Lights are required on all bikes (white to the front/red to the rear).  This is a legal requirement when cycling at night. 
-All cyclists are required to wear a helmet and should dress appropriately for the weather (festive attire welcomed).
-This is a family friendly event however all participants must be able to confidently cycle a bike. It is not recommended for very young children who have not mastered cycling skills. 

Event registration
-Registration will be on Gladstone Street from 6:15pm.
-Cyclists should attend for registration at least 30 minutes in advance of the event.
-Each cyclist is encouraged to dress in their best festive gear to add to the festive feel of the cycle and to safely bling their bikes with lights and tinsel of desired.
-A safety briefing will be delivered by the Lead Cycle Marshal on the night just before departure. The route will be discussed at this time too. 

General Safety
-For the safety of each cyclist, all participants are requested to follow the guidance provided by our team of marshals.
-Cycle marshals will be positioned to the front and rear of the group, and at intervals within the group. 
-The route has been carefully selected with participant safety in mind
